FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the difference between a year-round swimming program and a
summer-league swim team?
A. Swim Oconee is a sanctioned member of USA Swimming. We train year-round and compete only in
USA Swimming sanctioned competitions. USA Swimming is the national governing body for
competitive swimming in the United States, and is one of the country's largest, most organized
and competently coached youth sports. For more information, click here.
Q. What kind of commitment is required? Do you have to go to so many
swim meets during the season like summer leagues?
A. The pace of year-round swimming is much less frantic than a summer league schedule. There are
no mandatory practices or competitions. The program is designed so that you can swim as much
as your schedule and your child's desire allow. We try to schedule at least one competition per
month, but attendance is optional.
Q. What time is practice? What days do you practice?
A. Practice times and days depend on which group your child swims with. Check the calendar page for
more specific information.
Q. What is the overall cost?
A. The overall cost is reflective of which group your child swims with and how many competitions your
child attends. Check the membership information page for more specific information.
Q. Is there a multi-swimmer discount?
A. Yes...there is a 15% discount for a second child, 25% for a third child. A fourth child swims free.
Q. Can I still swim with my summer-league team?
A. Absolutely...in fact we encourage swimmers to return to their summer programs. Since our training
is more rigorous than most summer-league teams, most of our swimmers choose to practice with
their summer-league teams in addition to Swim Oconee so that they are able to have fun with their
friends while maintaining their appropriate fitness level.
